Police have launched a homicide inquiry after the demise of a person in Downpatrick.Officers went to a home in Marian Park at about 12:00 BST on Sunday.A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of homicide and stays in custody.Police suspect the case is likely to be related to a severe assault on a priest in St Patrick’s Church within the city.Police stated a person walked into the church on St Patrick’s Avenue and hit the priest on his head earlier than leaving.Det Ch Insp McBurney stated it “was a very surprising and brutal assault and has left the priest with a severe head harm”.The priest was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, the place police stated he remained in a “severe situation”.
